About Kwasi Nyantakyi Owiredu
Kwasi has over 15 years of professional tax and accounting experience – over 14 years have been with EY and a 1-year stint with another accounting firm in the UK prior to starting his tax career with EY Ghana.
Kwasi was recently seconded to EY UK to lead the Africa EMEIA Desk for 3 years at the EMEIA Desk Tax Centre in London. During this period of secondment, he led Africa footprint projects which provided faster and more efficient collaborative platforms for multi-country planning and cross-border transactions, and tax advisory support to MNCs. He was a Director at EY UK prior to re-joining EY Ghana.
Kwasi is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Tax Practitioner, and a Lawyer. He holds an MBA from the University of East London, United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Business Administration (Accounting option) from the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from Wisconsin University College, Ghana. He was called to the Bar, England & Wales, by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London, United Kingdom. This was after pursuing his law practice at the University of Law, United Kingdom.
Professional tax experience
Kwasi’s professional experience includes global compliance and reporting, international tax and transactions, tax controversy, and indirect tax for our MNC clients. His industry experiences span across several sectors including energy and natural resources, consumer products, logistics & transportation, financial services, manufacturing, construction and telecommunication.
Kwasi was ranked by International Tax Review (ITR) as a Tax Rising Star in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2023. Kwasi is an advocate for tax fairness, integrity, and advocacy. Through his personal efforts, several Ghanaians are now enjoying upfront mortgage interest deductions which hitherto were denied. This follows from the landmark personal income tax case of Kwasi Nyantakyi Owiredu V. Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
